Nickel Metal Hydride
While the number of charge cycles in a NiMH battery is less than that of a NiCad battery, its strong point is its capacity! The NiMH battery has roughly 30% more capacity than that of a NiCad battery.
One benefit of this battery is that it is "environmentally friendly." This battery has nothing in it that is harmful to the environment. Another nice feature is that the chances of a "memory effect" are less likely if taken care of correctly. This battery also takes considerably less time to recharge when compared to a NiCad battery.
The thing to know when you buy a new NiMH battery is that the battery, and the electronics inside the battery have to "get to know" your laptop computer. New cells do not charge at the same rate in the beginning. To get the most out of your battery, you should charge it until your laptop says it is fully charged and then turn your laptop on and wait for the battery to expire. If you do this five (5) times, the batteries will have reached full capacity. This is referred to as cycling the battery. To ensure getting the most out of your battery, you should cycle the battery at least every one (1) to two (2) months.
